MUSEUM
TO SHOWCASE ASSAM’S ARTISTIC LEGACY AND PROMOTE GLOBAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Guwahati: The JSW Group and Government of Assam have come
together to set-up a world-class heritage museum in Guwahati, dedicated to the
preservation and promotion of art, culture and heritage.
As per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between
JSW Group and the Government of Assam, the museum will be set-up at the Sericulture
Farm, Khanapara, on a site measuring 45,000 square feet. The Government of
Assam has allotted the land for the construction of the museum, which will be constructed
and fully funded by the JSW Group.
The museum will serve as a hub for national and international
artefacts, travelling exhibitions and cultural showcases, creating
opportunities for global cultural exchange.
The inaugural exhibition will feature the Vrindavani Vastra, the famous 17th-century devotional textile
woven under the spiritual guidance of Srimanta Sankardev, currently preserved
at the British Museum in London.
Dr.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam,
welcomed the partnership as a significant milestone in the State’s cultural
vision. He said, “The museum
will be a source of immense pride for our State. It will not only bring the
sacred Vrindavani Vastra home but will also provide a state-of-the-art facility
for showcasing Assamese art and heritage alongside global exhibitions. We thank
the JSW Group and Mrs. Sangita Jindal for coming forward to collaborate with us
in this unique initiative.
Mrs.
Sangita Jindal, Chairperson, JSW Foundation, said, “We have long believed in the power of art
and culture to inspire communities. Through this collaboration, JSW is honoured
to support the Government of Assam in creating a museum that will preserve
India’s cultural heritage and offer a platform for global cultural engagement.
The museum will stand as a testament to our shared heritage and artistic
devotion.”
The museum will include state-of-the-art climate
control facilities and security systems to ensure the preservation of the artefacts.
It will stand as a long-term collaboration between the Government of Assam and
the JSW Group, symbolising their joint commitment to preserving India’s
cultural treasures and fostering global appreciation for Assamese heritage.
