PM Modi to Launch India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially unveil India’s first privately developed orbital rocket, Vikram-I built by space-startup Skyroot Aerospace on 27 November 2025. The ceremony will be held via video conference. Alongside, PM Modi will inaugurate Skyroot’s new facility in Hyderabad, called the Infinity Campus.

What is Vikram-I

  • Vikram-I is Skyroot’s first full orbital rocket capable of launching satellites into space.

  • The rocket belongs to the “Vikram” series (named in tribute to space pioneer Vikram Sarabhai). Its design uses advanced materials including a carbon-composite body and technology such as 3D-printed engines.

  • Earlier, in 2022, Skyroot had successfully launched a sub-orbital rocket called Vikram‑S becoming the first private company in India to do so.

  • The new Infinity Campus spans roughly 2,00,000 sq ft, and is built to design, build, test and integrate multiple launch vehicles with capacity to assemble one orbital-class rocket each month.

Why This Matters

  • Vikram-I could mark a new era in India’s space sector shifting from government-only launches to private-sector participation. This could make satellite launches cheaper and more frequent, helping businesses, researchers, and organisations needing access to space.

  • With private firms like Skyroot entering the field, India may become more competitive globally in the small-satellite launch market. The involvement of startups adds agility, innovation and potential cost-efficiency.

  • The move also signals confidence in India’s space ecosystem including regulatory support from the government and collaboration between public agencies and private companies.

What’s Next

  • On 27 November, PM Modi will officially reveal Vikram-I and the Infinity Campus.

  • In the coming months, Skyroot plans to move ahead with final tests and schedule the maiden launch of Vikram-I. According to past statements, the rocket aims to carry small satellites into low Earth orbit.
