Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started rolling out 5G SIM cards across India, aiming to bring faster internet services to more people at affordable prices. The government-owned telecom company is working to expand its network and compete with private telecom operators in the country.
According to reports, BSNL customers can now get the new 5G SIMs from BSNL service centres and the BSNL Customer Service Center outlets across many cities. Existing users may also be able to upgrade their current SIM cards to use the new service if they have a compatible 5G smartphone.
The company has been upgrading thousands of telecom towers to prepare for this rollout. With the new network, users are expected to get much faster internet speeds compared to 4G, which can help with smoother video streaming, faster downloads and better online gaming.
BSNL officials have said the aim is to make high-speed internet accessible and affordable, especially for people in smaller towns and rural areas where connectivity can still be limited.
India has already seen rapid growth in 5G services over the past few years with companies like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel launching their own networks earlier. Now BSNL is also trying to strengthen its presence in the telecom market with its 5G rollout.
The company is expected to continue expanding the service in more parts of the country in the coming months. As the rollout grows, more users in India may soon get access to faster and more reliable mobile internet.
