Threads Adds New Podcast Feature to Attract More Fans and Creators

Meta’s social app Threads has launched a new feature designed to make it easier for podcasters and podcast fans to connect and share content on the platform. The update lets creators share short podcast previews directly in people’s feeds, so users can listen and engage without leaving the app.

What’s the New Feature?

The new update allows podcasters to upload preview clips of their episodes that play right in the Threads feed. This means users scrolling through Threads can hear snippets of podcasts and decide if they want to follow or talk about a show, all without opening another app.

Threads already allowed users to link full podcast episodes on their profiles that open in services like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or iHeartRadio. Now with in-feed previews, podcasts become easier to discover and share.

Goal: More Engagement Around Podcasts

Connor Hayes, head of Threads, said the aim is to make the app “the place where you’re talking about and engaging with other fans about what’s going on in a podcast.” This means Threads wants podcasters and listeners to use the platform not just for text posts, but as a space to build community and conversation around audio shows

To attract creators, Threads has also started hosting live podcast events, such as a recent recording of the popular basketball podcast All The Smoke, where influencers posted about the show on the app.

Why This Matters

Threads has grown quickly since its launch in 2023 and now has millions of daily users, but it still faces competition from other online communities like Reddit, Discord, Substack, and Patreon, where many podcast discussions currently happen. By adding tools focused on audio content, Threads is trying to become a central place for podcast fans to gather and talk

With in-feed previews, users may spend more time on the platform discovering new podcasts and joining conversations, which could help Threads stand out from other social networks.

The new podcast preview feature is part of Threads’ broader effort to add more creator-friendly tools and keep users engaged. As the platform evolves, it’s likely to introduce even more features focused as per different types of creators and communities.
