Arattai, the messaging app created by Zoho, has introduced end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for all individual chats. This means messages are now locked on the sender’s device and can only be unlocked by the receiver. No one else, including Arattai, can read them.
The new encryption feature is available on Android, iOS, and desktop. To start using it, users must update to the latest app versions: v1.33.6 on Android, v1.17.23 on iOS, and v1.0.7 on desktop.
Once updated, the app automatically starts a new encrypted chat session. Old chats are moved to an archive and become read-only. They will still be visible but cannot be used for sending new messages.
Arattai will show a shield icon at the top of the chat window to indicate that the conversation is protected with end-to-end encryption.
Users who have not updated yet will get a three-day grace period. During these 72 hours, they can continue using their old chats. After that, updating the app becomes compulsory and encryption will be enabled for everyone.
Arattai is also working on adding end-to-end encryption for group chats, which is expected to be released in the coming weeks. The company is also preparing encrypted chat backups, which may roll out in about two weeks.
Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu described this update as one of the biggest changes in Arattai’s history because it required major technical improvements.
According to Arattai’s support team, the new encryption system protects not just text messages but also photos, videos, documents, voice notes, voice calls, and other shared files.
With this update, Arattai becomes stronger in terms of privacy and moves closer to apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
