Apple

Apple is reportedly planning a major update to its MacBook Pro lineup, possibly arriving in late 2026 or around 2027. According to industry reports, this next version could bring six big changes both in design and performance, making it a major redesign rather than just another chip update.

Here’s what the latest leaks and reports suggest about what might be coming in the next MacBook Pro.

1. OLED Display Instead of Mini-LED

Apple is said to be moving away from the current mini-LED screen used in MacBook Pros and switching to OLED technology. OLED screens typically offer deeper blacks, richer colors, better contrast, and improved overall picture quality. Creators who work with photos and videos could especially benefit from this upgrade.

2. Touch Input Support

One of the most talked-about changes is the possibility of a touchscreen display on the MacBook Pro. Apple has long avoided adding touch screens to its laptops, but recent reports suggest the company is testing this feature. If true, users may be able to interact with macOS using touch in addition to the usual keyboard and trackpad.

3. No Notch, Hole-Punch Camera Instead

Future MacBook Pro models might remove the notch (the camera cutout) that has been present for a few years. Instead, Apple could use a hole-punch style camera, similar to many modern smartphones. This would allow for a more uniform display, and Apple may add a Dynamic Island-style area for system alerts and activity, similar to recent iPhone models.

4. New Chips: M6 Pro and M6 Max

Under the hood, the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to run on Apple’s next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. These processors are likely to be built using a 2nm manufacturing process (even more advanced than the current 3nm technology), leading to better performance and power efficiency. This could mean faster speeds and longer battery life.

5. Slimmer and Lighter Design

The switch to an OLED panel and internal reengineering may help Apple make the new MacBook Pro thinner and lighter than before, while still keeping important ports like HDMI, MagSafe, and an SD card slot, features many professionals rely on.

6. Built-In Cellular Connectivity (Possible)

One of the more surprising features under discussion is built-in cellular connectivity, such as direct 5G or LTE support. If included, this would allow the MacBook Pro to stay connected without needing a phone hotspot or Wi-Fi. Apple might use its own modem chips (like future C-series chips) to make this possible.

When Could It Launch?

While Apple might release upgraded M5-powered MacBook Pros sooner, many experts believe the fully redesigned model with all these new features may arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. Not all models might get every upgrade; the highest-end versions are expected to benefit most from the full set of changes.

What This Means for Users

If these features arrive as expected, this could be the biggest MacBook Pro upgrade in years. Creatives, professionals, and power users may see significant improvements in display quality, performance, design, and connectivity. But until Apple confirms details, everything remains in the realm of strong industry reports and leaks.
