Global technology company Lenovo has announced plans to make India a major hub for designing and exporting AI servers. The announcement was made during CES 2026, a global technology event.
Lenovo said that its Bengaluru research centre will design advanced AI server systems. These servers will then be manufactured in India, mainly at the company’s factory in Pondicherry.
At first, the servers will be made for Indian customers. Later, Lenovo plans to export them to other countries. The company said India has the skills and infrastructure needed to support large-scale server production.
Lenovo is part of the Indian government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware. This scheme supports companies that manufacture technology products in India. Lenovo said government support has helped it expand its plans in the country.
The company also said it wants to help small and medium businesses use artificial intelligence. Instead of buying very expensive systems, businesses can use cloud services and smaller devices to run AI tools.
AI servers use a lot of power. To solve this problem, Lenovo is using energy-saving cooling technology. This helps reduce electricity use and makes data centres more efficient.
Lenovo said this move will create new jobs in India and strengthen the country’s position in the global technology market. The company believes India can become an important exporter of AI infrastructure in the coming years.
