It's Over: Elon Musk Says AI May Become Smarter Than Humans by End of 2026

Artificial intelligence (AI) might become smarter than humans much sooner than we think and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says it could happen by the end of 2026.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Musk said the pace of AI development is extremely fast. He warned that intelligent machines could soon outsmart individual people, and later this decade, might even become smarter than all of humanity put together.

Musk said:

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in 10 years, but at the rate AI is progressing, I think we might have AI that is smarter than any human by the end of this year… and then probably by 2030 or 2031, AI will be smarter than all of humanity collectively.”

AI + Robots Could Change Everything

According to Musk, the biggest change won’t just be AI on its own, it will be when AI is combined with robots. He said advanced humanoid robots could start being sold to the public soon, possibly by late 2027. These robots might help with many kinds of work, from factory jobs to household tasks.

Musk also predicted that one day there could be more robots than humans, saying robots and AI could become so widespread that they fill almost all human needs.

The Catch: Power and Energy Needs

While Musk talked about an AI future full of advanced machines, he also pointed out a challenge: energy. He said that the main limit to AI growth might not be computer chips or software, but the availability of electricity to power huge AI systems.

What This Means

Musk’s comments have sparked widespread discussion. Some people are excited about the possibilities of AI and robots improving lives and productivity. Others are worried about what super-intelligent machines might mean for jobs, safety, and human control.

Whether his timeline turns out to be accurate or not, one thing is clear; AI and robotics are developing fast, and their impact on society is likely to grow in the coming years.
