Swiggy has launched a new feature that will let users order food, shop for groceries and even reserve restaurant tables directly through AI chat tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s Gemini. This change makes it possible to place orders using simple chat commands instead of opening the Swiggy app every time.
What’s New for Users
With this update, Swiggy users can:
-
Order food from restaurants
-
Shop for groceries on Instamart
-
Book tables at restaurants via Dineout
All of this can be done inside supported AI chatbots by typing natural phrases such as “Order snacks for tonight” or “Get ingredients for Thai green curry.” The AI assistant will then handle the entire process from finding options to placing the order and tracking delivery.
Swiggy says this feature removes the need to scroll through menus or switch between apps. Instead, the conversation itself becomes the way to order.
How It Works
This capability is powered by something called the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is an open-source framework that allows AI systems to connect securely in real time with services like Swiggy Food, Instamart, and Dineout. Once a user connects Swiggy inside their AI tool, the assistant can:
-
Search for restaurants or products
-
Compare food and grocery options
-
Add items to the cart
-
Apply coupons or offers
-
Confirm delivery details
-
Place the order and track it until delivery
Swiggy also says Instamart is the first quick-commerce platform in the world to use MCP at this scale, supporting more than 40,000 products through conversational AI.
Why This Matters
Swiggy’s move reflects how people are increasingly relying on AI assistants for everyday tasks like search, planning and decision-making. Instead of tapping through multiple screens, users can now simply type or speak what they want and have the AI do the rest.
Madhusudhan Rao, Chief Technology Officer at Swiggy, explained that this shift is meant to reduce friction and make daily tasks easier and faster, by allowing users to express their needs in normal language.
How to Get Started
To use this feature, users need to connect Swiggy services inside their chosen AI assistant. This usually involves going into the AI tool’s settings, adding a custom connector for Swiggy Food, Instamart or Dineout, and then starting a chat to place orders.
Swiggy says the traditional app will continue to work as usual. This new option is intended to give users another way to place orders and plan daily needs through a single conversational interface
