Actor Shahid Kapoor has shared his honest thoughts about what he feels is going wrong in Bollywood today. According to him, the industry is slowly moving away from good storytelling and focusing too much on business, numbers, and marketing.
Shahid believes cinema should not be controlled only by profits. He says films work best when they come from honesty and emotion, not fear of failure.
Good Films Still Have an Audience
Shahid clearly disagrees with the idea that people no longer want meaningful films. He feels the audience has not changed as much as filmmakers think.
He said,
“It’s not that the audience doesn’t want to watch films. It’s also that we are not making as many good films as we should.”
According to him, cinema is a two-way process. If filmmakers stop trusting stories, audiences slowly stop showing up. Shahid feels people still enjoy good writing, strong characters, and real emotions when they are given a chance.
When Marketing Starts Controlling Cinema
Shahid also spoke about how marketing and promotion now play a very big role in films. While he understands that marketing is important, he feels it should not take over the soul of cinema.
He explained,
“That purity of people clapping, reacting naturally, that is what makes art special. When something manufactured comes into it, it no longer feels the same.”
He added that when everything is planned only to create hype or control reactions, films start losing their honesty. Cinema, he says, should feel real, not calculated.
Final Thoughts
Shahid’s comments reflect what many viewers already feel. Hindi cinema is at a point where it must choose between playing safe or trusting creativity again.
He made it clear that business is necessary, but it should not become the only goal.
“If you are only working for numbers, then that’s just business, not art.”
In a time when audiences are watching strong stories from around the world, Shahid’s message is simple. Bollywood needs to believe in its stories again.
Because good cinema still matters. And the audience is still waiting.
