New Delhi : The provisional data released by the Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) for the April–December 2025 period highlights a highly coordinated effort to maintain nutrient availability for the ongoing Rabi season. Urea sales during this period witnessed a 3.8% growth, reaching 31.16 million tonnes, supported by a domestic production of 22.44 million tonnes and a strategic 85.3% surge in imports. Simultaneously, the focus on balanced crop nutrition led to a 13.1% rise in NP/NPK production, complemented by a massive 121.8% increase in imports, ensuring that farmers have access to a diverse range of complex fertilisers regardless of short-term demand fluctuations.
The indigenous phosphatic sector also showed resilience, with Single Super Phosphate (SSP) recording a 10.3% growth in production and a 13.1% rise in sales. While DAP sales experienced a slight moderation of 4.1%, a 45.7% increase in import volumes successfully sustained the availability of phosphatic nutrients across the country. MOP sales further supported this trend with a 5.3% growth. FAI Chairman Mr. S. Sankarasubramanian and Director General Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari emphasized that the current supply planning underscores a gradual shift towards more balanced fertilisation practices. They reiterated that aligning nutrient application with specific crop requirements and soil conditions remains central to the industry's long-term objectives for agricultural productivity and soil health.
