Mumbai : The Heavy Engineering business
vertical of L&T has achieved yet another milestone by dispatching the 8th
Steam Generator for India’s 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs)
fleet civil nuclear power programme. This comes three months ahead of the
contractual delivery schedule.
Manufactured at L&T's state-of-the-art Heavy Engineering Complex
at Hazira, the Steam Generator is among the most critical components of a
nuclear power plant. The early delivery reflects L&T's continued commitment
to safety, quality and execution excellence while supporting India's rapidly
expanding nuclear energy programme.
The milestone comes at a pivotal time in India's clean energy
transition journey. With the Government of India accelerating nuclear capacity
addition to strengthen energy security, support industrial growth, enable AI
and digital infrastructure and meet long-term decarbonisation goals, timely
delivery of critical nuclear island equipment remains an imperative.
L&T's achievement reinforces the strength of India's indigenous
nuclear manufacturing ecosystem and its readiness to support one of the world's
largest civil nuclear expansion programme.
Commenting on this, Mr Anil V Parab, Whole-Time Director & Senior
EVP - Manufacturing, L&T, said: "L&T continues to set industry
benchmarks. The dispatch of all eight Steam Generators ahead of contractual
delivery schedules underscores our unwavering commitment to nuclear safety and manufacturing
excellence. It stands as a testament to our engineering capability to
fast-track India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of scaling nuclear power generation
to 100 GWe. We remain committed to the long-term partnership with NPCIL in accelerating
India's transition to clean energy”.
For over six decades, L&T has been a key contributor to India's
nuclear power programme, manufacturing critical equipment including Steam
Generators, Reactor Headers, Pressurisers, End Shields, Calandrias and Fast
Breeder Reactor components. L&T’s continued investments in advanced
manufacturing technologies, automation and specialised nuclear fabrication
capabilities have established one of the world's most comprehensive nuclear
manufacturing ecosystems.
