The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the schedule for the ongoing voter-list update drive known as Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by one more week in 12 states and Union Territories.
New Timeline
-
The enumeration period (when citizens can check or submit corrections) is now extended up to 11 December 2025.
-
Poll-station rationalisation, control-table updates and draft-roll preparation will happen between 12–15 December 2025.
-
The draft electoral rolls will be published on 16 December 2025.
-
After that, from 16 December 2025 to 15 January 2026, voters can file claims or objections if their names are missing or incorrect.
What This Means
This extension gives additional time for citizens to:
-
Verify if their names appear on the voter list
-
Add new entries (if eligible)
-
Correct mistakes, such as address changes, spelling, or duplicate entries
Booth-level officers and agents, responsible for compiling and updating voter data also get an extra 7 days to handle lists of “absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate” voters.
Who’s Covered
The extension applies to 12 States / Union Territories undergoing SIR.
Why It Was Needed
With upcoming elections in several regions, the ECI aims to ensure the electoral rolls are accurate, up-to-date and inclusive. Extending the deadline helps minimise errors and ensures more voters get included or can correct earlier mistakes.
