Vande Mataram Turns 150: PM Modi to Begin Year-Long Celebration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a year-long celebration to mark 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, India’s national song. The event took place in New Delhi, where he released a special stamp and coin in honour of the song.

PM Modi said that “Vande Mataram” is not just a song but a symbol of India’s pride and freedom. He called it a prayer to Mother India that fills every Indian with strength and love for the country.

“Vande Mataram” was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875 and later became part of his famous novel Anandamath. During India’s freedom movement, this song inspired many people to fight for independence and unity.

The government will celebrate this milestone throughout the year with many events such as:

  • Cultural shows and music performances of patriotic songs.

  • Exhibitions showing the history of “Vande Mataram” and India’s struggle for freedom.

  • Competitions in schools and colleges to spread awareness about the song.

  • Seminars and talks about its message and importance today.

PM Modi said that “Vande Mataram” connects the hearts of all Indians and reminds everyone of the values of unity, courage, and devotion to the nation.

The celebrations will continue till November 2026, ending with a special event to honour Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and India’s freedom heroes.
