The government of India has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit New Delhi from 4 to 5 December 2025, as part of the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit. The invitation came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
What Will Happen During the Visit
During his stay, Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for high-level talks. The country’s President will also receive him and host a banquet in his honour. The summit will review progress in bilateral ties and is expected to deepen cooperation on several fronts: defence, energy, trade, nuclear cooperation, and other strategic sectors.
What Is On the Agenda
Officials have indicated that discussions may include:
- Strengthening the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between India and Russia.
- Possible deals related to defence including talks around air-defence systems and upgrades to military equipment.
- Cooperation in energy and civil nuclear sectors, trade, technology and possibly, labour mobility or other economic agreements.
Why This Visit Matters
This will be Putin’s first visit to India since the Ukraine war began in 2022. The summit presents an opportunity for both nations to reaffirm and possibly expand their long-standing strategic partnership at a time when global politics and energy dynamics are shifting.
For India, the talks could shape future defence purchases, energy cooperation, trade policies, and overall foreign-policy alignment with Russia.
