A special court in Pakistan has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each in the high-profile Toshakhana-II corruption case, officials confirmed on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
The verdict was delivered by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand during a hearing held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan is already incarcerated.
The case revolves around expensive state gifts, including luxury watches and a Bulgari jewellery set, that were presented to Khan by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit in May 2021. Prosecutors said that the couple acquired these gifts at a heavily undervalued price and failed to properly declare or deposit them into the Toshakhana, the government’s official state gift repository.
Under the judgment:
-
Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under the Pakistan Penal Code’s criminal breach of trust provisions.
-
An additional seven years’ imprisonment was imposed under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
-
The court also imposed a fine of about PKR 16.4 million (around ₹52 lakh) on each of them.
The court noted that it took a “lenient view” in sentencing, considering Khan’s age and the fact that Bushra Bibi is female. Additionally, it applied a legal provision allowing time already served in detention to count toward the sentence.
Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi deny wrongdoing, calling the charges fabricated and politically motivated. Their legal teams have indicated plans to appeal the verdict in the High Court.
This latest sentence is another significant legal setback for Khan, who has faced multiple convictions and is already serving jail time in other corruption cases.
