Delhi Pollution Worsens, Air Quality Turns Severe, Thick Smog Covers City

Delhi is once again struggling with dangerous air pollution, as air quality levels across the city have reached the ‘severe’ category. A thick blanket of smog has covered roads, buildings, and residential areas, making it difficult to see even short distances in the morning and evening hours.

According to air quality monitoring agencies, the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed safe limits in many parts of the capital. Doctors have warned that breathing such polluted air can be harmful, especially for children, elderly people, and those with asthma or heart problems. Hospitals reported an increase in patients complaining of breathing trouble, chest tightness, sore throat, and burning eyes.

Experts say the main reasons for the pollution spike include vehicle emissions, construction dust, industrial smoke, and weather conditions that prevent pollutants from dispersing. Low wind speed and cold temperatures have trapped harmful particles close to the ground.

The government has announced emergency steps such as restricting construction work, checking polluting vehicles, and advising people to work from home where possible. Citizens have been urged to avoid outdoor exercise, wear masks, and use public transport to reduce pollution levels.
