Delhi Blast Suspects Planned Diwali Attack, Later Dropped the Plot: Sources

The suspects arrested in the recent Delhi Red Fort blast case had initially planned to carry out a major attack during Diwali, but decided to drop it later, as reported by NDTV.

According to India Today the accused, identified as Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, a medical professional revealed during interrogation that he and his associates wanted to target a crowded public place during the festival to cause maximum damage. However, the plan was later abandoned for reasons still under investigation.

As reported by Times of India investigators believe the suspects were part of a larger network that included educated individuals and professionals from the medical and academic fields. The group is said to have used encrypted apps to communicate, plan, and fund their activities.

Sources told Hindustan Times that the accused also carried out a recce of several areas in Delhi, including those near Red Fort, before finalizing their plan. Authorities are now probing whether the group had any foreign links or received external support.

Meanwhile, ANI reported that Al-Falah University, where Dr. Ganaie was associated, has distanced itself from the case and said it has no connection with the accused beyond his employment.

The Delhi Police and central agencies continue to investigate the terror module’s network and motives, while security has been tightened across major landmarks and public places in the capital.
