Bengaluru Airport

Waiting at an airport is usually boring. Long walks, crowded seats, and nothing much to do except stare at your phone. But Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport is trying to change that feeling with a new space called Gate Z.

Located inside Terminal 2, Gate Z is not a regular airport lounge. It is a social hangout space designed for modern travellers, especially Gen Z, who want their travel time to feel relaxed, fun, and meaningful.

Gate Z is built around one simple idea: waiting does not have to feel like waiting.

Instead of rows of chairs and silent corners, the space feels open and lively. People can sit, talk, work, eat, or simply chill before their flight. You do not need a special membership or lounge access to enter. It is open to all passengers.

The airport says Gate Z is less about age and more about a mindset. Today’s travellers want experiences, even during short breaks like airport waits.

What Makes Gate Z Different

Gate Z is divided into different zones, each offering something unique:

  • Bubble & Brew is a café-style area where travellers can grab coffee, snacks, or quick bites.

  • The Sipping Lounge offers comfortable seating for relaxing, chatting, or working on a laptop.

  • Subway Diner brings a fun, retro vibe with live food counters and quick meals.

  • Amphizone is an open amphitheatre-style space used for screenings, pop-up events, and interactive activities.

The design is modern and Instagram-friendly, with curved seating, soft lighting, open pathways, and colorful details. The idea is to make the space feel warm, social, and easy to move around.

Built for the Way Gen Z Travels

Gen Z travellers often look for places where they can connect, create, and relax. Gate Z reflects this lifestyle. It allows people to work on their laptops, meet friends, watch something interesting, or just take a break from travel stress.

Even the name “Gate Z” came from a national contest, where young people across India shared ideas and voted for the final name. This helped the space feel more personal and youth-driven.

A New Travel Experience

With Gate Z, Bengaluru Airport is showing how airports can become more than transit points. They can be places where travellers feel comfortable and even enjoy spending time.

Instead of rushing to the gate or waiting restlessly, passengers can now slow down, enjoy a coffee, meet others, or explore the space before boarding.

As airports continue to evolve, Gate Z offers a glimpse into the future of travel, where waiting is no longer boring, and the journey begins even before take-off.
