Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been lodged in Adiala Jail since August 2023. According to his family and supporters, an unofficial ban on family and visitor meetings with him has been in place for over a month.
On 25 November 2025, amid circulating rumours on social media claiming Imran Khan had died in custody his three sisters Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Dr. Uzma Khan went to Adiala Jail along with supporters of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), demanding permission to meet him.
According to PTI and the sisters, when they gathered peacefully outside the jail, police allegedly intervened with force assaulting several people, including the sisters, even though they were not blocking roads or doing anything unlawful.
Noreen, reportedly 71 years old, said she was seized by her hair, thrown to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining visible injuries. Other women present have alleged being slapped, dragged, and manhandled.
In response, PTI and the sisters have submitted a formal complaint to the Punjab Inspector General of Police, demanding an impartial investigation and action against those involved.
Rumours, Panic and What Is or Isn’t Verified
The violence and the long-standing meeting ban triggered a wave of worry across Pakistan. On social media, unverified posts from Pakistan and Afghanistan spread claims that Imran Khan had been mysteriously killed in the jail.
So far, however, no credible evidence has emerged to confirm these death rumours. No independent source has verified them.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed his condition either. The uncertainty over his health, coupled with the refusal to allow family visits, has only deepened public anxiety.
Reactions, Allegations and Demands
PTI and many public voices have condemned the police action outside Adiala Jail as a blatant violation of human dignity and democratic rights. They argue that a peaceful protest to demand family contact was met with “state-sponsored violence.”
Thousands of Imran Khan supporters reportedly gathered outside the jail demanding transparency, respect for legal rights, and an unconditional meeting with him.
The sisters have urged for a full, impartial inquiry into the assault and want accountability for the officers involved.
