It Will Be Done: Trump Signals Fresh Move on Greenland Over Russia Threat

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again turned the spotlight on the Arctic island of Greenland, saying that the time has come for action because Denmark has failed to deal with what he calls a “Russian threat” in the region.

In a strong message posted on his social media platform, Trump claimed that NATO has been urging Denmark for two decades to remove this threat from Greenland, but that little has been done so far. He wrote,

“Now it is time, and it will be done.”

Trump has long expressed a desire for the United States to gain greater control or influence over Greenland, a large island that is an autonomous territory of Denmark. He argues that Greenland’s location makes it strategically important for American security, especially given Russia’s activities in the Arctic.

The renewed push by Trump has come amid rising diplomatic tensions with several European allies, including Denmark, which has firmly rejected the idea of selling Greenland to the U.S. Both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have said the island is not for sale and does not want to become part of the United States.

Trump’s comments also follow his threat to impose higher tariffs on some European countries that oppose his Greenland plans, a move that has drawn criticism from NATO partners.

Critics say Trump’s rhetoric could strain relations with allies and undermine NATO unity, since Greenland is already covered by NATO defense obligations and there is no clear evidence of an imminent Russian threat to the island.

The situation remains tense, with the issue of Greenland’s future and Arctic security becoming a growing point of international debate and diplomatic concern.
