~ “Annadaan” drive reflects the university’s broader commitment to
community engagement and inclusive development.
Sehore : As communities across India celebrated the festival of
colours, VIT Bhopal University marked Holi with a community outreach initiative
aimed at supporting underserved populations across several districts of Madhya
Pradesh. Volunteers from the university distributed food to people in need
across Bhopal, Indore, Ashta, Sehore and Ujjain, as part of a social impact
initiative.
The initiative was carried out
under the guidance of Assistant Vice
President, VIT Bhopal, Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, who has been steering
the university’s social engagement programmes across the country. Designated
representatives from the university participated in the effort, coordinating
distribution drives in multiple locations to ensure that the spirit of Holi
extended beyond campus celebrations.
While Holi is traditionally
associated with joy, colours and community gatherings, the university positioned
the initiative as a reminder that festivals can also serve as moments for
social solidarity. By organising simultaneous distribution drives across
several cities, the programme sought to address immediate needs while
encouraging meaningful civic action.
University representatives noted
that such initiatives are part of a wider effort to embed community
responsibility within the institutional culture. The outreach programme
provided an opportunity to engage directly with local communities, reinforcing
the idea that higher education institutions can play a role not only in
academic advancement but also in social development.
The university’s focus on community
engagement has recently received national recognition. VIT Bhopal University
was honoured with the ‘University of the Year 2025 – Social Impact through
Education’ award at the Academic Insights Education Excellence Awards and
Summit 2025 in January this year, acknowledging its initiatives that integrate
education with social responsibility.
With programmes such as the Holi “Annadaan”
(food distribution) drive, the university continues to expand its outreach
footprint across Madhya Pradesh, signifying its ongoing effort to strengthen
ties between the campus and the wider community.
