VIT Bhopal Campus Comes Alive with Community Bonding through Harvest Festival Celebrations

Sehore : The campus of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Bhopal was alive with colour, music, and collective warmth as the university celebrated various Indian harvest festivals, including Pongal, Lohri, Sankranti and Bihu, on January 8 at the Auditorium of the New Academic Building. The celebrations marked a visible return to campus vibrancy, with students reconnecting, cultures converging, and community bonds strengthening, with the start of a new year and new academic session.

The event was graced by the Honourable Vice President Sankar Viswanathan, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. T. B. Sridharan, along with Deans, Directors, faculty members, staff and students.

The day began with a traditional puja at the main entrance, followed by ceremonial lamp lighting in the auditorium—symbolic of renewal, continuity, and fresh beginnings. What followed was an energetic showcase of India’s cultural diversity. Different student cultural clubs collectively upheld the spirit of the harvest celebrations through high-energy and graceful performances that brought alive the essence of Lohri, Pongal, Sankranti, Bihu, and the likes, reflecting India’s regional richness.

Adding meaning to the celebrations, the university also felicitated local farmers from Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, in recognition of their contribution to society and the spirit of the harvest festivals, reinforcing values of gratitude for those who sustain the nation.

Students also took to the stage with speeches in various Indian languages, including Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu, Bengali, Hindi and English, reflecting not just linguistic diversity, but a campus rediscovering its shared voice.

On the occasion, Mr. Sankar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT Bhopal, said, “Universities are not defined only by classrooms and curricula, but by shared experiences that bring people together. Seeing the campus animated again, with students celebrating India’s rich diversity, reaffirms the sense of belonging and mutual respect that VIT Bhopal stands for.”

The Pro Vice Chancellor and the Director of Students Welfare also addressed the audience, emphasising the role of cultural traditions in fostering inclusivity, empathy and a strong campus community.

The celebrations concluded with vibrant performances and enthusiastic participation, leaving behind a renewed sense of connection. More than a festival observation, the evening signalled that VIT Bhopal is firmly back in rhythm — energised, united, and moving forward together.
