IGNOU Administrative Failure: Former Students' Admissions Cancelled, Time Wasted; Students Distressed by Insensitive Call Center Response

NEW DELHI/LUCKNOW: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), renowned for its vast reach in distance education, is currently facing severe criticism and deep concern from its student body. A significant and deep-rooted failure within the university's admission and administrative processes is creating an unprecedented crisis, particularly affecting students who have previously graduated from IGNOU and are seeking readmission or higher studies.

The core of the crisis lies in administrative delays that have devastating consequences for students' academic futures. Cases have emerged where eligible students, after successfully completing their prior degree and paying fees for a new program, have had their admissions suddenly cancelled. This drastic action is directly linked to the university's failure to perform timely or complete updation of final grade cards and assignment marks in its records.

This bureaucratic negligence has left otherwise qualified students in a state of limbo, resulting in the wastage of four crucial months and significant financial expenditure.

Failing Communication and Insensitive Response

When students attempt to resolve these time-sensitive issues, they are reportedly met with non-cooperation and a shocking lack of empathy from the staff:

  • Non-Functional Helplines: The official contact numbers provided on the university's website are frequently reported as being invalid or receive no response, effectively shutting down official communication channels.

  • Indifference at Regional Centers: According to one student's account, when attempting to connect with the Lucknow Regional Centre via phone, the staff member's response was notably insensitive. The employee refused to provide any information over the call, instead directing the student to only communicate via email (a channel that had already failed to yield a response). Furthermore, the student was told to either meet the Director physically or simply wait for the RTI reply filed regarding the discrepancy.

This indifferent behavior not only exacerbates student anxiety but also raises serious questions about the university's commitment to treating its students with the basic standards of respect and courtesy.

Accountability for Wasted Time and Money

The student, whose admission was cancelled and four months wasted due to misinformation provided by both the Study and Regional Centres, is demanding immediate accountability. Students want to know: Who is responsible within the IGNOU administration for this serious systemic failure, the miscommunication, and the wastage of their time, energy, and money?

This issue transcends a personal grievance; it highlights a profound failure of the overall administrative system. IGNOU must urgently address this administrative chaos and establish a transparent, responsive mechanism to safeguard the careers and future of thousands of its learners.
