Malanpur: Godrej Consumer
Products Limited (GCPL) inaugurated its 4th manufacturing unit at Malanpur,
Madhya Pradesh, on 26th August, under the gracious presence of the Hon'ble
Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav, and Nisaba Godrej, Executive
Chairperson, GCPL. This marks a significant milestone in Madhya Pradesh's
industrial growth story and reinforces the state's position as a preferred
destination for large scale manufacturing investment.
GCPL has been operational in
Malanpur since 1991. Located in the Industrial Area, Malanpur, District Bhind,
the plant spans a total of 65 acres with a cumulative investment of ₹850 crore.
Over three decades, the site has evolved into a critical pillar of GCPL's
manufacturing ecosystem, producing soaps, hair colours, household insecticides
and more. With this expansion, the site is adding its 4th manufacturing unit at
an investment of over ₹480 crore.
The inauguration reflects Madhya
Pradesh's growing industrial strength and GCPL's continued commitment to
strengthening India's FMCG leadership, anchored in the principles of scale,
sustainability and Aatmanirbharta.
Hon'ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav, said, “Godrej's journey in Madhya Pradesh is a testament to the state's strong and enduring partnership with industry. From establishing its Malanpur facility in 1991 to inaugurating this expanded manufacturing hub today, the company has consistently contributed to employment generation, industrial development and economic growth in the state. It is a matter of pride that Malanpur is now home to Asia's largest integrated soap manufacturing facility, reflecting both Godrej's legacy of innovation and Madhya Pradesh's emergence as a preferred destination for investment and manufacturing. Equally encouraging is the facility's focus on inclusive growth, with women playing an increasingly important role in its workforce. We value Godrej's contribution not only to industrial progress but also to public health through initiatives such as the EMBED programme, and we look forward to further strengthening this partnership in building a prosperous, self-reliant, and developed Madhya Pradesh.”
Commenting
on the plant's inauguration, Nisaba
Godrej, Executive Chairperson, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), said, "This expansion makes Malanpur
home to Asia's largest integrated soap manufacturing facility, with our lines
here capable of producing up to 4,000 soap bars every minute. It is a
state-of-the-art facility that reflects 35 years of partnership between Godrej
and Madhya Pradesh, dating back to when we first began manufacturing in
Malanpur in 1991. We expect this expansion to generate a turnover of INR 3,800
crore once fully operational. We are proud of the role this factory has played
in creating opportunities for women in manufacturing and are particularly
encouraged by the Madhya Pradesh Government's move last year to enable women to
work night shifts, with the right safeguards in place, a change that gives
women greater access to jobs, skills and eventually leadership roles."
Aasif
Malbari, MD and CEO, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), said, "Designed with cutting edge
automation and digitisation, this plant features high speed production lines
that operate almost three times faster than our current lines, significantly
upgrading production efficiency. With an investment of nearly INR 480 crore in
this expansion, taking our cumulative investment in Malanpur to over INR 850
crore, our total soap manufacturing capacity has grown to over 2 lac metric
tonnes per annum, making Malanpur
one of Asia's largest integrated soap manufacturing plants. This expanded and advanced facility
will now produce a wide range of products beyond soaps including some of our
best-selling brands like Cinthol, Godrej No.1, GoodKnight, Godrej Aer and
Godrej Expert Hair Colour. We commend the Madhya Pradesh Government for its
progressive and futuristic vision, and for its continued focus on investor
facilitation and ease of doing business, which has given us the confidence to
make this long-term investment."
In line with GCPL's broader
sustainability goals, the facility is designed with a strong focus on
environmental responsibility, adhering to the guidelines of the Indian Green
Building Council (IGBC).
